Purpose & Goals

The purpose of the BC Commercial Beekeeper’s Association is to advocate for commercial beekeepers, defined as any beekeeper with 100 colonies or more that is based in British Columbia and includes non-provincial beekeepers that overwinter and/or provide pollination services in BC.

2024 Goals of the BCCBA

1.

Develop a standard non-compulsory blueberry pollination contract where the beekeeper gets paid for the strength of the colony and the grower receives confirmation of bee strength through an independent timely inspection.

2.

Develop and maintain a list of bad Growers who fail to comply with their pollination agreement.

3.

Work with Dr. Sarah Woods, University of Saskatchewan in her three-year study of bee health in blueberries.

4.

Develop a supportive relationship with the Canadian Beekeeping Federation.

5.

Develop a BCCBA position on US Package Bee imports, and make that position known to the Canadian Beekeeping Federation and to the CFIA.

6.

Develop a supportive position on combating adulterated honey in Canada.

7.

Develop a protocol for BCCBA members to have their honey tested for plant origin.

8.

Advocacy on other issues that members may require assistance with.
